Frequently Asked Questions
Why does balancing matter on truck tires?▼
An unbalanced tire creates a centrifugal force that becomes a vibration at highway speed. This vibration wears tires unevenly (cupping), fatigues the driver, loosens wheel fasteners, and accelerates wear on bearings and suspension components. Balancing is cheap; vibration damage is not.
How often should truck tires be balanced?▼
Balance steer tires every 50,000 miles or when you notice vibration. Drive and trailer positions benefit from balancing when tires are rotated or when abnormal wear is found. After any tire repair or replacement, always re-balance.
What is cupping on a truck tire?▼
Cupping (also called scalloping) is a wave-like uneven wear pattern caused by an out-of-balance or out-of-round tire bouncing as it rolls. It's most common on drive and trailer positions. Balancing or replacing the tire stops the wear progression.
Can balancing fix vibration caused by alignment?▼
No — alignment problems cause different symptoms than balance problems. Vibration from balance usually starts around 55–65 mph and smooths out at higher speeds. Vibration from alignment causes constant pulling or wandering. We diagnose the correct cause before any service.
