Truck Tire Shaving in Houston, TX
Tire truing for perfectly round, even tires — reduce vibration and extend tire life
Service Description
Irregular tire wear costs truckers thousands of dollars per year. Our Houston shop specializes in truck tire shaving (depilado) — a process that trims the outer surface of a tire to make it perfectly round and flat across the contact patch. This eliminates vibration caused by out-of-round tires, extends tire life, and improves ride quality. This is NOT regrooving — we do not cut new channels into the tread; we true the tire surface. We also handle standard puncture repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is truck tire shaving?▼
Tire shaving (depilado in Spanish) uses a specialized lathe to trim the outer surface of a tire so it spins perfectly round. Irregular wear or manufacturing inconsistencies create high and low spots — shaving removes those high spots so the tire makes uniform contact with the road. This reduces vibration and extends the tire's usable life. It is NOT regrooving: we do not cut new grooves into the tread.
How is tire shaving different from regrooving?▼
Regrooving cuts new channels into a worn tire to restore tread depth. Tire shaving (what we do) trims the outer surface to make the tire geometrically round. Shaving fixes vibration caused by flat spots or uneven wear — it gives the tire a uniform, flat contact patch that rolls smoothly. Two very different services.
What causes irregular tire wear on a semi?▼
The main causes are: wheel misalignment (toe error causes feathering), improper inflation (under-inflation causes shoulder wear, over-inflation causes center wear), out-of-balance wheels (cupping or flat spots), and worn suspension or shock absorbers allowing axle bounce.
Can you repair a tire with a nail or bolt in it?▼
Yes, for punctures in the tread area that are 3/8" or smaller and not in the sidewall. We use plug-patch combinations for a permanent repair. Sidewall punctures and large tread damage are not repairable — we'll be honest about when replacement is the only safe option.
How do I know when a truck tire needs to be replaced?▼
Replace when: tread depth is below 2/32" (steer) or 1/32" (drive/trailer), the tire has sidewall cracking, bulging, or exposed cords, or there's damage that can't be safely repaired. We provide a written recommendation with every inspection.
